My Names are Ssenfuka Joanita Warry the interim executive director of Freedom and Roam Uganda (FARUG). I have worked for FARUG for eight years now.

My responsibilities in the LGBTI movement in Uganda are as mentioned.

  • Treasurer board of sexual minorities Uganda (SMUG)
  • Committee member at civil society coalition on human rights and constitutional law.
  • Member National Security committee.

In the harsh environment like Uganda where homosexuality is completely forbidden and is regarded as a crime, working to support LGBTI persons is never an easy job.

Especially with the hostile homophobic actions against LGBTI persons from Ugandan communities. I have a vision and passion to continue with the fight for the rights of LGBTI persons until the battle ground is levelled.

I Look forward to the discussion evening with Letra, were I will also dicuss the current situation of LGBTI in Uganda and our future plan as activists of FARUG Uganda.

About FARUG; it is a Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LBTI) diverse persona and a women organization and the only exclusively all women organization in the struggle for the recognition of homosexual rights in Uganda. The main reason for FARUG being of this nature is the male dominance in the rest of the homosexual organizations which the founders felt was lagging LBTI women behind at the time when the entire women’s community was breaking away from the chains of marginalization.
