MOVIE NIGHT – Two Days, One Night – 18.12.2025
THE DETACHMENT SERIES IV/VI
In a world that frames us architects as neutral executors, we reclaim architecture as political. This semester, we explore how we’ve become detached, from meaning, from care, from the realities we build in.Through six film nights, we’ll question our complicity, face the grief of disconnection, and search for new forms of attachment, to community, solidarity, and resistance.
In the fourth screening we are taking a look at detachement in relation to class realities by watching the 2014 drama film Two Days, One Night (French: Deux jours, une nuit), written and directed by the Dardenne brothers.
Sandra is a factory worker who discovers that her workmates have opted for a €1,000 bonus in exchange for her dismissal. She only has a weekend to convince her colleagues to give up their bonuses in order to keep her job. Questions of solidarity arise. What do we consider a solidaric practice in capitalism? How can we act solidaric, if the rule runs differently and our dependency stays unchanged? While our education and work field in architecture is based on and thriving from the idea of individual value and competition, do we realise which impact that has on ourselves and on others?
Through the film we want to discover that this functionality is not a specification of our field, but an identifier of the economic system we function under. Can we explore what we need in order to fight against this functionality and towards solidarity?
„Two days, one night“ will be screened in French with English subtitles.
AS ALWAYS, THE EVENT IS FREE OF CHARGE! 🙂
