 \, documentary and archival footage to portray the impact of Israeli natur
 e protection laws on these customs. The restrictions prohibit the collecti
 on of the artichoke-like ’akkoub and za’atar (thyme)\, and have result
 ed in nes and trials for hundreds caught collecting these native plants. F
 or Palestinians\, these laws constitute an ecological veil for legislation
  that further alienates them from their land while Israeli state represent
 atives insist on their scientic expertise and duty to protect. Following t
 he plants from the wild to the kitchen\, from the chases between the forag
 ers and the nature patrol\, to courtroom defenses\, Foragers captures the 
 inherited love\, joy and knowledge in these traditions alongside their res
 ilience to the prohibitive law. By reframing the terms and constraints of 
 preservation\, the lm raises questions around the politics of extinction\,
  namely who determines what is made extinct and what gets to live on.\n\nF
 oragers schildert die Dramen rund um das Sammeln von essbaren Wildpflanzen
  in Palästina/Israel mit ironischem Humor und in meditativem Tempo. Der
  Film\, der auf den Golanhöhen\, in Galiläa und Jerusalem gedreht wurde\

 oub und za'atar (Thymian) und haben zu Geldstrafen und Gerichtsverfahren f
 ür hunderte Araber geführt\, die beim Sammeln dieser einheimischen Pflan
 zen erwischt wurden. Für die Palästinenser sind diese Gesetze ein ökolo
 gischer Deckmantel für eine Gesetzgebung\, die sie weiter von ihrem Land 
 entfremdet\, während israelische Staatsvertreter auf ihre wissenschaftlic
 he Kompetenz und ihre Schutzpflicht pochen. Foragers folgt den Pflanzen vo
 n der Wildnis in die Küche\, von den Verfolgungsjagden zwischen den Samml
 ern und der Naturpatrouille bis hin zur Verteidigung vor Gericht und fäng
 t die ererbte Liebe\, Freude und das Wissen dieser Traditionen sowie ihre 
 Widerstandsfähigkeit gegenüber dem Verbotsgesetz ein. Indem er die Bedin
 gungen und Zwänge der Erhaltung neu definiert\, wirft der Film Fragen zur
  Politik des Aussterbens auf\, nämlich wer bestimmt\, was ausgelöscht wi
 rd und was weiterleben darf.
